tackling the use of color

Paintings, 1982-2018. Painting for me has been a journey of exploration with technique and subject matter, which you will see if you look at the earliest paintings here. When I was doing studio art in college, there was never any discussion about technique, it was all about ideas, and so I have learned through trial-and-error, sticking to acrylic paint for many years, which was the medium I used to paint all my murals.   Recently, though, I have been enjoying oil painting a lot, and have intensified my study about how we perceive colors in our environment.

Drawing is still the foundation of painting for me, and I am experimenting with ways of translating ‘drawings of place’ to a larger, bolder color format.
